     EARTH DAY 2015

For the 45th year celebration of Earth Day, the Earthsavers has organized a convergence of performance and media arts for a broadcast mass outreach of a climate change education paradigm in line with the Earth Day objectives to underscore the value of a grassroots call to action to rally world leaders to forge the global agreement to prevent the irreversible threshold of 2° Celsius signaling the catastrophic implications of climate change. On the oldest radio station DZRH, the Climate Education Week Broadcast Program begins with poetic traditional debate about man-made pollution causing climate change written by Professor Tomas Ongoco, in cooperation with Alpha Phi Beta Fraternity featuring former senators, now Manila Hotel President Joey Lina, and Climate Change Commissioner Heherson Alvarez. With Makata sa Cellphone, Frank Rivera and Santiago City Councilor, Hexilon Alvarez.

It will air at DZRH award-winning Radyo Balintataw on Sunday, the 19th followed by a panel discussion on the Rocky Road to Paris, the Urgency of a Global Deal, next Sunday, the 26th, hosted by Philippine Center of the ITI President, Cecile Guidote-Alvarez, Director of Earthsavers UNESCO Artist for Peace. It will feature an Interfaith Dioalogue update on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction announcement of the selected Father Neri Satur Environmental Hero Awardees with DENR Secretary Ramon Paje.

Climate issues: Problems and actions using as initiative for discussion–the Education Toolkit of Earth Day Network and UNESCO Education Module for Sustainable Development will be aired on the 20th-24th of April, 2015 at 11:30pm interwoven with the 10 Commandments for Sustainable Development performed by the Earthsavers handicapable artists.

Earth Day observance in the Philippines was initiated in 1990 by Senator Heherson T. Alvarez, then Chairman of the Committee on Environment, 25 years ago and founding member of the Global Legislators for a Balanced Environment (GLOBE) with US Senator Al Gore.

On April 4, 1990, the Philippines officially joined the community of nations in celebrating International Earth Week and International Earth Day through the adoption of Senate Resolution 97, which was introduced by Senator Heherson Alvarez.

The Washington-based Earth Day Network founder and chair Denis Hayes particularly took notice of how the Philippines was able to harness the energies of Congress to give its full support to the activities lined-up for Earth Day and with leadership on legislation.
